Institute Director Dr. Thomas Milner and Medical Director Dr. J. Stuart Nelson are pioneers in the field of optics and photonics in biology and medicine. Their innovative Dynamic Cooling technology, developed at the Institute, is now the standard-of-care for the treatment of port wine stains, hemangiomas and other vascular birthmarks in infants and young children. Dynamic Cooling technology has made possible the treatment of a wide variety of skin diseases. The technology has been incorporated into more than 25,000 laser systems worldwide and has generated the second-highest UCI patent royalty income to date.
