The Beckman Laser Institute, Inc. non-profit, Institute Founding Director Michael Berns and Professor of Pulmonology Matthew Brenner generously provided the seed funding to establish the Sol Kimel Memorial Endowed Graduate Student Award in perpetuity.
The award is in recognition of Holocaust survivor Sol Kimel, who impacted the lives of many students, faculty and staff in the 18 summers he spent as a visiting professor at the Institute. Thus far, the Institute has raised over $100,000 thanks to the generosity of our donors.
Join us in honoring Sol’s legacy as a leader in photochemistry and laser spectroscopy, while providing life-changing opportunities for the next generation of talented scientists. To leverage giving, gifts of $5,000 or more made prior to December 31, 2021, the UCI Graduate Division will match dollar for dollar the endowment payout for ten years.
