Henry Hirschberg

Research Professor, Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic

Dr. Henry Hirschberg is a research professor at UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic.  He is an innovator in the field of neurosurgery. His expertise in immunology and his combined interest in medicine, science and engineering has fueled his dynamic medical career. Dr. Hirschberg has two primary research foci, including the clinical application of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and finding new ways to use the photochemical internalization (PCI) as laser-based novel treatment modalities for malignant brain tumors.

Dr. Hirschberg has written and peer reviewed 214 publications. He serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he maintains a long-standing research collaboration with Dr. Steen Madsen.

Before joining UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic, Dr. Hirschberg served as a consultant in neurosurgery and chief of image-guided and stereotactic surgery and neurosurgical oncology in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Rikhospitalet in Oslo, Norway.  He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. with a specialty in immunology from the University in Oslo in Norway.
