Yona Tadir

Dr. Yona Tadir is an adjunct professor at the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic (BLI), University of California, Irvine (UCI) and retired professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beilinson Medical Center, Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Dr. Tadir developed the world’s first laser laparoscope (1979) and the first laser-based system for gamete micro-manipulations in assisted reproduction (In Vitro Fertilization – IVF) (1988).  Dr. Tadir’s studies included photodynamic therapy in female reproductive organs, developing new tools and protocols for minimally invasive surgery including the removal of uterine fibroids with an electric morcellator (1992). Since 2019, Dr. Tadir is part of a team of scientists from BLI, and clinicians from relevant departments at UCI Medical Center seeking to advance the use of energy-based technologies for the treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus (VLS) in developing non-invasive optical technologies for monitoring post-treatment histologic changes. 

Dr. Tadir earned his M.D. with distinction from Tel Aviv University’s School of Medicine (1974), co-authored 190 scientific articles and 5 books on subjects ranging from a textbook of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, and the use of lasers in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Tadir served as the 1st Medical Director of the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic at the UCI School of Medicine (1991-1998) and received the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) award for lifetime contribution to laser technology (2021).
