Professional Research Positions

Prof. Wilder-Smith anticipates an opening at the Beckman Laser Institute at the University of California, Irvine for a non-tenured, academic term appointment in the Professional Researcher series (Assistant Researcher, Associate Researcher and/or full Researcher). Qualified applicants for the Professional Researcher position must possess interest and background in Biomedical Optics Medical Device Development and dentistry background. Responsibilities include developing non-invasive optical devices for research in oral cancer therapy and soft-tissue architecture. We seek individuals with expertise in optical technologies using semiconductor lasers, fiber optics, computers, and solid-state detectors. Knowledge of electronics, RF techniques and software control of instrumentation is desirable. Candidates should hold a DDS or equivalent graduate degree and possess the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team setting. Strong familiarity with biomedical optics concepts is desired. Candidates with independent funding will be given special consideration. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
