Year 3 BC-DOI-NETWORK TEAM 1 SUMMARY

Team 1 is comprised of 6 core academic members, who utilize the
infrastructure of 5 NCI comprehensive cancer centers, 4 NCRR P41
Technology Centers, and 2 NCI P01 program projects.

The BC-DOI network includes 41 Associate Members from 10 Academic and
11 Industry sites.

Over 40 students have participated in BC-DOI organized meetings in the
past year.
-
Team 1 organized 2 scientific sessions at national meetings, held 8
Executive Committee Conference calls, and presented at 4 international
scientific meetings and 2 NIH sponsored meetings (13th Annual SPORE and
NCI NTROI Meeting).

Team 1 Investigators gave 15 presentations about research progress at 9
scientific meetings.

Team 1 investigators filed 4 patent disclosures during this report
period. The BC-DOI team has just completed licensing of about 40 United
States patents for breast cancer detection to FirstScan, a spinoff
company of Spectros, Inc, that formed specifically to work with NTROI
and advance optical technology in breast cancer.

Almost 100 scientists, clinicians, students, and members of industry
from 8 states and 4 countries attended our Third Annual BC-DOI Network
Retreat, presenting 23 posters and 18 talks.

BC-DOI Network Investigators submitted 10 proposals to various agencies
with the aim of leveraging NTROI funding.
- Team 1 clinical sites enrolled a total of 144 patients in BC-DOI studies.

Team 1 awarded 9 developmental projects with $250,000 in total costs to
continue work towards specific aims. The awarded developmental projects,
aimed at contributing new understanding to primary objectives of the
RFA, translation and validation, cover a broad spectrum of activities
including database development, standardization of histopathology
methods, development of novel measurement protocols, and support for
student training.

Team 1 developed 2 software platforms for databasing, data analysis,
and data visualization optimized for optical imaging and optics-MRI
co-registration in collaborations with RSNA and CA-BIG.

BC-DOI Investigators cited NTROI research in 32 publications. A list of

core.
